The marriage of Zedd and Rita was a turning point that shifted the show from dark and menacing to a more comedic, “squabbling couple” dynamic. If Zedd had remained a solo villain, he likely would have succeeded in destroying the Rangers. His early appearances showed him as a cold, calculating strategist who viewed the Rangers as a minor nuisance to be eliminated with surgical precision. Without Rita’s influence—and the comedic distractions that came with her—Zedd’s monsters would have remained much more lethal and terrifying.
The tone of the series would have matured significantly. Zedd’s obsession with the “Power” might have led him to attempt to corrupt the Morphin Grid directly much sooner. Instead of the goofy “domestic” scenes in the Moon Palace, we would have seen a dark empire expanding across the solar system. This could have forced the Rangers to seek out more desperate measures, perhaps calling for reinforcements from other planets (like the Alien Rangers) much earlier in the timeline to survive Zedd’s relentless assault.
