In Ninja Storm, Shane, Dustin, and Tori were the “misfits” who only became Rangers because they were late to class when Lothor attacked. If they had been on time, they would have been captured along with the rest of the students. This would have forced Sensei Watanabe to grant the Wind Morphers to a completely different set of students—perhaps the “top tier” elite ninjas who were originally captured. The show would have lost its “underdog” charm, replacing the relatable trio with disciplined, stoic warriors who likely lacked the creative “skater/surfer” fighting styles that ultimately defeated Lothor’s generals.
This shift would have also changed the dynamic with the Thunder Rangers. Blake and Hunter’s rivalry with the Wind Rangers was fueled by the fact that the “misfit” trio was surprisingly capable. Against elite ninjas, the Thunder Rangers might have played a more traditional “spy vs. spy” game. The eventual team-up would have been a cold, professional alliance rather than the close-knit family bond we saw, potentially making the finale much darker as the elite ninjas might have been more willing to make “necessary sacrifices” to stop Lothor.
