Spider-Man: Brand New Day, scheduled for release on July 31, 2026, serves as the fourth installment in the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise and the beginning of a brand-new trilogy. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film picks up four years after the events of No Way Home. Peter Parker (Tom Holland) lives in total isolation, having been erased from the memories of everyone he loves, and has fully committed himself to being a “full-time” anonymous protector of a New York City that no longer knows his name.
The narrative centers on a Peter who is struggling to navigate adulthood without a support system while investigating a mysterious, high-tech wave of crime. His solitary life is disrupted when he crosses paths with Ruby Hart (Sadie Sink), a reckless street reporter—later revealed to be the mutant Jean Grey—who is hunting a shadowy crime organization. This new era for Spider-Man is described as a “grounded, street-level” noir, focusing on Peter’s raw instinct and willpower in a city gripped by corruption.
The film introduces a massive “rogues’ gallery” of classic street-level villains, including the long-awaited return of Mac Gargan / Scorpion (Michael Mando) and the live-action debuts of Tombstone (Marvin Jones III), Boomerang, and Tarantula. Peter also finds himself in a tense “big brother/little brother” rivalry with Frank Castle / The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), who is hunting the same criminal underworld. These conflicts are further complicated by the rise of a mysterious conspiracy involving the Department of Damage Control and the Inner Demons gang.
A central plot point involves a “surprising and dangerous physical evolution” of Peter’s powers. As the pressure of his double life intensifies, his DNA begins to mutate, causing him to develop organic webbing similar to previous cinematic versions of the character. This transformation eventually threatens his life, leading him to seek help from Bruce Banner / Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), who is now a professor at Empire State University. Rumors suggest this mutation may even push Peter toward a bestial “Man-Spider” form.
The film concludes by setting the stage for the massive multiversal events of Avengers: Doomsday. While Peter strives to reclaim his identity and reconnect with a now-adult MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon), he must ultimately choose between his own happiness and his responsibility to a city that views him as a menace. Brand New Day is positioned as a “rebirth” for the character, stripping away Stark-tech and cosmic allies to return Spider-Man to his core as a resilient, street-level hero.
