In Jungle Fury, Casey was the “cub” who had to learn leadership. If his mentor, RJ, had taken the Red Ranger mantle from the start, the team would have been led by a laid-back, Zen-master surfer. The training sequences would have been much less stressful, but the team might have lacked the “fire” and “drive” that Casey brought to the group.

Jarrod (Dai Shi) would have had a much harder time, as RJ was already a master-level fighter. The “rivalry” would have been between two masters rather than a master and a student. While the Rangers would have won battles more easily, the character growth for Theo and Lily would have stalled, as they would have just relied on RJ to solve every problem. The season would have been a showcase of “cool” martial arts, but would have lacked the “heart” of the underdog story.
