The A-Squad was established as the elite, veteran team that B-Squad looked up to. If they hadn’t defected to Emperor Gruumm, the entire premise of Power Rangers S.P.D. would have shifted from “underdogs proving themselves” to a story about a massive intergalactic war. B-Squad would have remained the “backup” team, potentially performing logistics and city-level peacekeeping while the A-Squad handled the frontline battles against the Troobian Empire.

The character growth of Jack and Sky would have been significantly stunted. Sky’s obsession with becoming the Red Ranger would have likely turned into deep-seated resentment, as he would have been stuck in the shadow of Charlie (the A-Squad Red Ranger) indefinitely. The climax of the season would have been a massive collaborative effort between both squads, turning the finale into a large-scale military operation rather than a personal test of B-Squad’s worthiness.
