Zhane spent most of In Space in a cryogenic tank. If he had been active from the first episode, the Space Rangers would have been an unstoppable force. Zhane was essentially the “Tommy” of the Space era—more powerful and experienced than the core five. With him on the team from day one, Andros wouldn’t have been so isolated, and the team would have had a tactical advantage that likely would have prevented the fall of several planets to the Alliance of Evil.
The relationship between Zhane and Karone (Astronema) would have been the season’s primary focus. Instead of a late-season romance, it would have been a season-long arc about whether a hero could love the person responsible for the galaxy’s destruction. This would have added a layer of soap-opera drama to the space opera, potentially ending with Zhane being the one to finally reach Karone’s heart, rather than Andros having to kill Zordon to save her soul.
